Mum’s Beard Cafe Victor Harbor

HI FOODIES!👋🏻 @mumsbeardcafe IS THE NEW KID ON THE BLOCK IN VICTOR HARBOR (fyi yes harbor in VH is spelled without the U) EVERYONE IS TALKING ABOUT IT AND EVERYONE IS GOING! 

The fit out! I love it! It’s eclectic edgey. To me, it screams female empowerment however, if you’re just skimming the surface, you wouldn’t notice. #notaskimmer  It’s not possible to file it away under one banner so I made my own. 😁

I hadn’t eaten meat for 5 days and wanted to ease my body into animal protein. We started with the Skordilia. No not Skordalia which is Greek potato and garlic dip. This was house made beetroot hummus, charred broccolini, fetta, house dukkah, crisps and balsamic reduction. Freaking hell I love a char on vegetables, it just adds a depth of flavour! 😱 So simple, yet changes a dish dramatically. This is my type of dish! Each component has a job and it does it well. 

We thought we’d go for the Mother of All Beards which is their sharing board. 

I’m going to start with the stand out, Lamb Croquettes. Served with a mint onion jam and pickled veg (fennel) The use of fennel was ideal! That ever so slight aniseed aftertaste had me all kinds of excited! Oh and if you don’t like strong lamb flavours….still get it. So so good! 

The housemade slaw is the American version. No tang but a lot of cream. Seriously, who taught Americans how to make a coleslaw? 🤦🏼♀😁 The coleslaw is Good, absolutely. I’m not a fan of the American version. 

Zuni Pickles, ooooh maaa!  More pickles! *giggling like a school girl* I’m so excited. This is pickled zucchini however, the recipe originally came from the Zuni Cafe, San Francisco. I go crazy for zuni pickle! *jumping up and down with excitement emoji* 😁

The chicken wings are so freaking crispy! You’re asked if you want mild, medium or hot sauce on your wings. I said medium but next time I’m going hot. 🔥

I loved the Mac n Cheese! It had flavour! I could taste the cheese! Usually it’s so freaking creamy and rich that it spoils the whole meal for me. This one is Good. 

Great fries. That’s it.🤷🏼♀

Lastly, pulled pork sliders on a charcoal bun. They were Good. Mr OIIG  loved them but he loves pulled pork.
