HI FOODIES! I’M BAAAAACK!ย ย I NEEDED A BREAK FROM OIIG! TO BE COMPLETELY HONEST THE THOUGHT OF NEVER COMING BACK FLEETINGLY CROSSED MY MIND….IT WAS ONLY FLEETING.ย
My fight or flight response kicked in, I momentarily wanted to close down OIIG and run. I didn’t #anxiety
Now I can tell you what our visit to @ong.vietnamesekitchen was like. There were four and a half of us, we decided the Feed Me menu was the best option.
Oh and we had a coriander hater with us.
Ong is where my favourite Corn Ribs live. They’re fried too, yet they’re juicy and flavoursome on the inside. Quang @nguyen.and.co has changed it up and added spring onion powder. I’m here for it. Friends I was with were hell impressed. Between you and me I’m expecting a version to turn up on a menu in Goolwa. I could be wrong.
Young Kaspar (he’s the half) had requested spring rolls, not a dish I would personally order at Ong however, so glad he did!
My favourite dish of the night award, goes to Canh Chua Wontons – Prawn Wontons, Sweet and Sour Soup, Basil Oil and Herbs. I requested a bucket of the soup to go! Just order this dish when you go.
The crispy rice paper with eggplant was fantastic. If you’ve never tried it before whether it’s the duck or pork version, put this one on your list. It’s extremely moreish!
You have to order the Salt and Pepper Lamb Ribs with the herb and lime salad….oh my gawd! You have to eat the ribs with the salad. Do not push it aside! The acidic and aromatic components cut through the richness of the ribs.
The Roasted Barramundi marinated in Tumeric and Coconut paste, are served with lime wedges…use them! The use of coconut and especially turmeric, add a huge hit of earthiness. Squeeze the lime onto the dish to change the flavours and bring balance. You’re welcome.
The BBH Short Rib had a stunning spicy Bun Bo Hue flavour. If you’ve never tried Bun Bo Hue, order it next time, instead of pho.
You’ll be fighting over the Vietnamese Crispy Fried Chicken, especially that skin! Make sure to dip it into the ginger lime fish sauce. Ok now I want it for lunch.
The desserts? Leave room.
